The Datsusara Covert Emissary Bag fits laptops up to 15" and has an array of smaller pockets to keep your gear organized. Made from our signature hemp fabric is naturally durable, breathable, and antimicrobial—safe for you and the environment.
Our latest iteration features: A courier strap to help secure the bag when worn messenger style. TSA compliant laptop pocket for easy lay flat scanning without removing the laptop from your bag. More organizational dividers and pockets including an expandable water bottle pocket.

Care
Bag Care: You will likely never need to wash your Datsusara bag as hemp stays naturally clean due to it's antimicrobial and breathing properties. In case you do we recommend you only hand wash in cold water (cold water prevents material shrinkage) and line dry. It is possible to machine wash the bags but it's tricky and we cannot warranty against damage from machine washing. As for the "Nasty bags" (which are synthetic) we recommend washing them however you like but line dry.
Apparel Care: For apparel you can wash however you want. But don't use any bleach as it weakens the hemp, and do keep in mind the hotter the water and dryer setting the more things will shrink.
For new gis we strongly recommend machine washing at least 2-3 times to prevent shedding of the material which occurs naturally with our 100% hemp gis.
Shipping & Returns
Your order will ship within 24 hours (36 hours for international) Monday-Friday excluding holidays and pre-orders (which ship by the date mentioned on the product's page). A tracking number will be sent to your email once the order ships.
North America & Canada US shipments range from 2-7 days of transit time between express and economy shipping. For Canada expect a few days to a few weeks.
Overseas shipments:
For International orders express options range from around 7-10 days and average around 3 weeks with economy. Also please understand that customs in your country may charge import fees (although we value our shipments at a fraction of their retail cost) and delay the shipment at their discretion. Hence delivery times are estimates and while we can't guarantee a delivery date 99.9% of packages reach their destination.
*We only ship to Hong Kong, Vietnam and Ukraine by special request due to frequent fraudulent orders from these countries.
Warranty
Datsusara provides a 3 year warranty on bags and a 1 year warranty on fightwear or apparel against faulty manufacturing. If your item breaks due to a fault in manufacturing while under warranty we will repair or replace it free of charge. Please do remember this does not cover natural wear and tear as any natural fiber will wear over time, faster if you are rough on your gear. Datsusara reserves the right to refuse any warranty claim that it deems to be the consumers fault due to misuse, such as loading up bags with C4 or practicing Jiu Jitsu with badgers. That being said at our discretion we may offer you our wear and tear discount which starts at 30% for year 1, 20% for year two and 10% for year 3.§
Exchanges & Returns: We accept most products in their original, odor-free, unused or unworn condition (with any tags) for up to 30 days from the date of shipment, exceptions are t-shirts, rash guards and underwear (which cannot be returned for sanitary reasons).
You may either receive store credit or a refund, less all shipping costs and a $1 restock fee per item (please understand that we are a small company and it would hurt us greatly if we had to pay for shipping expenses and restocking costs on non defective returns).

Exceptionally durable messenger bag praised for decade-long longevity. Customers said "best bag I've ever owned" and noted it "will last a lifetime." Features laptop compartment, multiple pockets, MOLLE webbing. Fits 17" laptops comfortably. Minor concerns: laptop straps desired, occasional squeaking at hinges, thinner shoulder strap than expected.
I bought the first iteration of this bag in 2013/2014. Fast forward ten or so years, over a dozen countries, and god only knows how many flights, and it still looks the same as it did when I first received it. This bag will last a lifetime, as will all of their bags. Highly recommend.
Great bag so far. I’ve had the Fortune and Glory bag for a few years and it’s held up great, but needed something that would hold a laptop.

I’ve had my covert emissary bag for almost a decade now, and used it almost daily. It’s showing some signs of its age, but it’s not showing any signs of quitting yet. Best bag I’ve ever owned.
Best computer bag I’ve ever had.
I was very happy with my battle pack snd decided to get this for my 15' MacBook Pro. The bag is secure and tough and well padded, with ample room for storing anything. The square velcro pocket on the front perfectly fits the standard Macbook AC charger and 3m cord. The rectangle velcro pocket perfectly stores the Mac Magic Mouse. the larger rectangle zipper pocket stores any other charging cables, usb devices you might need. Highly recommended!
Title pretty much sums it up. Although I wish there were instructions as to how to use the courier straps.
I have an earlier version of this bag and it is brilliant. This bag has carried my gear all over the world. It carries tons of work and workout gear. Easily fits a laptop + gi or laptop + overnight change if clothes for quick trips. As it’s aged, it’s taken in a beautiful faded coloring, but still feels strong as nails. Great product!
I have been using this bag daily for months now and love it.

I've struggled to find a bag that can fit my heavy ass 17" laptop (without being a backpack) and still being sturdy enough to carry more. This bag definitely does the trick. Also love the false zipper at the top giving access to the main compartment without having to open up the whole thing. Very handy. Absolutely love this bag. Side note: had a small issue with it and customer service from Datsusara has been fantastic.
Being a both a collector and everyday user of the messenger style bag ... this is by far the best I have yet, am on my second one as I have the first to my step son who still uses it everyday back and forth to school. Would recommend and have recommended to anyone wanting a messenger bag!
This has been my work bag for almost two years, and it's gone the distance. It's even come with me to more than one secret meeting, and lived up to its name :-) I highly recommend it to anyone who needs a functional work bag for carrying a laptop, papers, etc., that is high quality, good value, and looks both distinctive and profesh.
This bag has been my trusty side-kick since I bought it about 5 months back. It works great for my planner, notebooks, other misc items for work. Plenty of pockets for pens, calculators, chargers etc. Traveling for work requires carrying our brick-of-a 17" Dell Laptop. The Emissary Bag carried it, no problem. If I may humbly suggest an upgrade for the next version, it would be to include drink holders on one or both sides of the bag (two would be great for my travel thermos and water bottle).
Again, though, I have nothing but positive things to say about this bag, and Datsusara as a company, for that matter. Keep up the great work, Chris and crew!
Love this bag. Have had it for over a year now and no signs of wear. I take it as my main carryon on flights and for small 1-2day trips with the family. I ride 20miles a day on bike to and from work with it. I also use it as my gym bag regularly and it has held up extremely well. I'll be ordering the fany pack soon for hikes and to make traveling easier. If I could give one wish it would be for the gear bags to have flat fronts as the ability for them to catch the sides of things like lockers and overhead compartments in planes is the only thing holding me back on one. If you need a messenger bag this is one of the best. Sustainable and durable this hemp is awesome!
Not only is the bag big enough to fit more than just a laptop it also tries to solve the shoulder straps from putting to much weight down by having a comfy hanger to use both your hands and shoulder to reduce any aching! Overall Im extremely happy to buy this bag and will recommend the brand to anyone looking for either hemp or heavy duty bags!!

Was it there to say? It looks good, and it just works. This is my daily work bag. It carries a 14" laptop, some tools, some medicine, and occasionally some other books and paperwork. On top of that, charger for the laptops, various power packs (emergency power for laptop and phone), phone chargers, various cables, etc.
I've had it 8 months so far, using it every week day with no problem. I also love the Chrome bag I replaced it with, but that bag was just too big for everyday work use. This one is the perfect size for what I needed.
I don't typically write reviews but I came back to the website to see if they were still making this bag. I have owned mine for 6 years now and it is just starting to show some signs of wear in the main grab handle at the top of the bag. Other than that it is flawless. All zippers work perfectly, it still looks great and I still use it every single work day. I'm considering upgrading to the newer bag offered for the top zipper that was recently incorporated into the design.
I'm over the moon with this bag, it's bigger than I thought it would be and the shipping was quicker than Jackie Chan on fast-forward. Mr. Odell has sent something from Portland in shorter time than a company from Birmingham, U.K. I will definitely recommend Datsusara to people in future, money well spent. What can you say about this bag? Awesome construction, super strong zippers, top notch clips, takes any wear and tear you can throw at it. It has a pocket for any gadget you can think of. The zippered flap is a great idea to quickly get to your stuff without undoing everything. The pals webbing has multiple uses, I attache a cross chest strap to the pals webbing on the bottom corner of the bag to make it a true courier bag and stabilize it while riding my bike. And it fits my tank of a 17" HP elitebook and handles the weight of it! Something that almost no other laptop bag on the planet is capable of. Well worth the money. A+
Just what the description said, arrived way earlier then I expected in perfect shape. The shoulder strap seems thinner then one would think but its detachable if you want to switch it out, over all great quality. This is the perfect computer/school bag. Thanks for the bag Datsusara!
Couldn't be more pleased with this bag and its quality. If you are looking for a new messenger style bag, this is one of the more bad ass options out there. I also found the customer service to be top notch and highly responsive to questions, and the thing came super fast after I ordered it. A capital operation all around!
Great bag! I've pushed this bag to it's limits and it's still not shown any signs of bursting.
Only down side is that it's a wee bit squeaky at the hynges and my laptop's a little loose when in it, straps would be handy but not a massive deal.
Still a great bag, and would reccomend it to anyone to buy it! :)
I'm so glad that I bought this bag. I needed a bag that could carry my work laptop (a brick of an HP), personal laptop (Macbook Air), textbooks, notebooks, pens, calculator, usb drives, chargers, ereader, etc. This bag handles all of it with ease. i never feel like I'm putting any stress on it, even when it's fully stuffed. The shoulder strap is comfortable, with substantial padding. Huge main pockets and tons of smaller storage areas make organization simple. All that and it looks great. I recommend this bag to everyone.
I've preferred messenger style bags to backpacks for a long time, and I've bought many looking for the perfect combination of aesthetics, durability, functionality, and comfort. This bag is the best, by far. Two full size inner pockets - one for my laptop (padded) and one for files, books, papers, etc. The pockets on the front keep my smaller items (charging cords, adapters, flash drives, etc) separate so they aren't rolling around in the bottom of the main pockets potentially getting damaged when I set the bag down. The extra carry handle and plastic buckles create a virtual briefcase when the shoulder strap is removed and stored within, and the sliding pad on the shoulder strap itself eliminates uncomfortable shoulder-rub - especially if you plan to wear this weighted while traveling for long periods. I can't say enough about this bag. This is my first DS Gear purchase, but I'm a fan for life. I'm aiming at the light battle pack next...
Got the bag yesterday after waiting less than 9 days for international shipping (cheapest possible rate). Amazing service, amazing product. It's really big and will hold as much stuff as the video says (and possibly more).
Really looking forward to putting it through it's paces as my new business / work / stuff bag.

I'm going to be carrying this bag with me for years.
I always keep journals, planners, big sketchbooks, etc. with me. This is perfect for a compact portable art studio / office. It's got a pocket that is perfect for all of my pens, pencils, and markers. It has a small on great for erasers and sharpeners.
Besides that it has a ton of space in the main compartment. I used it for groceries last night, and was blown away by how much stuff I fit in there.
The design and materials are excellent, stylish, comfortable, and very durable.

I was looking for a bag that I could use for work. I wanted something that I considered professional, rugged and stylish. The Datsusara Covert Emissary Messenger bag is just that. While this bags overall size isn't huge, it has a lot more room than I originally thought. The inside compartments seem to be the perfect size for my work accessories. (power cord, business cards, pens, etc...) The only thing that I would add to this bag, would be a fully padded laptop compartment. This bag is only padded on the bottom and outside of the laptop area. Other than that, this bag was exactly what I was looking for. Lower quality messenger bags often sell for over $100.00. This is a great deal at $65.00. I highly recommend this bag.
This is an awesome bag that I use every day. Everything was really well thought out with the construction and the bag is really comfortable to carry. The MOLLE compatibility is great touch. I've tested the durability on a couple occasions (most recently by filing it with beer and hauling it around for an afternoon) and it held up without any issues. I also dig the fact that it's made from hemp...it's nice to be able to get hemp products without seeming like a total hippie. I'm certain I'll be buying more stuff from Datsusara in the future.
As the other reviewers I bought this for my daily essentials for work. Laptop, file folders, stationary, business cards, and other daily randoms. Which as have been stated this bag definitely covers on all levels. A few notes though. The laptop compartment is only half padded which isn't a deal breaker.
In the end the quality is top notch (heavy and thick and well hemp), it looks amazing and very functional. Was exactly what I was looking for. Won't be my last Datsusara product for sure.
