We designed the generous hood to quiet out the din while making sure the mesh side panels offer enough sight to stay vigilant. As Bob Dobbs says, sometimes we need to “pull the wool over our eyes.”... or hemp.
As a fabric, hemp is so versatile it both cools and insulates. Our blend of hemp and organic cotton allows the Recon Hoodie to be suited for just about any climate or condition and it's quite durable as well. Expect to get a lot of miles out of this hoodie.

Care
Bag Care: You will likely never need to wash your Datsusara bag as hemp stays naturally clean due to it's antimicrobial and breathing properties. In case you do we recommend you only hand wash in cold water (cold water prevents material shrinkage) and line dry. It is possible to machine wash the bags but it's tricky and we cannot warranty against damage from machine washing. As for the "Nasty bags" (which are synthetic) we recommend washing them however you like but line dry.
Apparel Care: For apparel you can wash however you want. But don't use any bleach as it weakens the hemp, and do keep in mind the hotter the water and dryer setting the more things will shrink.
For new gis we strongly recommend machine washing at least 2-3 times to prevent shedding of the material which occurs naturally with our 100% hemp gis.
Shipping & Returns
Your order will ship within 24 hours (36 hours for international) Monday-Friday excluding holidays and pre-orders (which ship by the date mentioned on the product's page). A tracking number will be sent to your email once the order ships.
North America & Canada US shipments range from 2-7 days of transit time between express and economy shipping. For Canada expect a few days to a few weeks.
Overseas shipments:
For International orders express options range from around 7-10 days and average around 3 weeks with economy. Also please understand that customs in your country may charge import fees (although we value our shipments at a fraction of their retail cost) and delay the shipment at their discretion. Hence delivery times are estimates and while we can't guarantee a delivery date 99.9% of packages reach their destination.
*We only ship to Hong Kong, Vietnam and Ukraine by special request due to frequent fraudulent orders from these countries.
Warranty
Datsusara provides a 3 year warranty on bags and a 1 year warranty on fightwear or apparel against faulty manufacturing. If your item breaks due to a fault in manufacturing while under warranty we will repair or replace it free of charge. Please do remember this does not cover natural wear and tear as any natural fiber will wear over time, faster if you are rough on your gear. Datsusara reserves the right to refuse any warranty claim that it deems to be the consumers fault due to misuse, such as loading up bags with C4 or practicing Jiu Jitsu with badgers. That being said at our discretion we may offer you our wear and tear discount which starts at 30% for year 1, 20% for year two and 10% for year 3.§
Exchanges & Returns: We accept most products in their original, odor-free, unused or unworn condition (with any tags) for up to 30 days from the date of shipment, exceptions are t-shirts, rash guards and underwear (which cannot be returned for sanitary reasons).
You may either receive store credit or a refund, less all shipping costs and a $1 restock fee per item (please understand that we are a small company and it would hurt us greatly if we had to pay for shipping expenses and restocking costs on non defective returns).

I have been replacing my old socks, underwear and clothing attire with hemp made items. They may cost more but, the durability is worth it.
nice material and most of the fit except the arm pits are kind of tight .. could be more free.. thankfully i jus stretched them out manually..should do for now..

Washed 3xs in cold with fabric soften and tumble dry on soften them up as recommended by Datsusara.

I'm 5'11 175 and the medium got perfect for both the hlldy and pants.
I also got the recon hood and socks which are also well made and comfortable.
Please bring back the original style. My wife complains every day about how my favorite sweater is shredded at the sleeves, holier than the Pope, and older than our relationship circa 2015. She feels horribly embarrassed on our casual dates when people commend her for treating a homeless man to dinner. Bonus for me, sometime I come home with additional left overs and the occasional spare jacket. She offered several times to buy me the current style, but I refuse to draw attention via horizontal seams to my juicy juicy man bosom.
Hahahah I understand the attachment, people don't like to let go of these. I promise though the new cut style looks pretty cool and it's built better. Just consider it so you don't get mistaken for a mystical drunken master.
90% of my wardrobe is hoodies. The Recon absolutely gets the most wear. I was apprehensive at first. It seemed a little delicate and a little stretchy. Two years in, it's still in tip top condition and hasn't lost it's shape. I do wash it in cold water on delicate cycle and air dry flat on a towel. It's warm considering how thin it is, and the thinness makes it great for layering under a jacket. My cuffs are still in pretty good condition and not experiencing any fraying like the other reviewer...and again, that's two+ years in with at least 5 days/week wear, all year round, and I definitely don't baby this hoodie.
Highly recommend this hoodie. Fit is great and true. I'm a very typical "L" and the L Reccon is a great athletic fit, without being too tight. It's perfect.
The over size hood is bad-ass too.
Love this hoodie. Somehow it keeps me warms when cold outside. And has a cooling effect when In a warm environment. Hemp is the future

Look, I LOVE my old Recon Hoody. Easily one of my favorite pieces of clothing I've ever had in my entire life. It was comfy, great for warm or cold weather, had a nice look to it with the small logo on the front and the big one on the back, and it was insanely durable. Only parts of the logo on the front and the cuffs were getting tattered after almost 2 years of nearly daily use. So like most people, I was eager for it to get restocked or a new version to get released.
When I saw pictures of this new one, I wasn't happy with the new look but I still ordered it. It's hard to review it fairly without comparing it to the previous version but here are the main things:
-It's a slimmer fit and not baggy like the last version
-The fabric feels a lot lighter but still very durable
-It's less expensive!
However, I don't like a few things, enough to where I almost gave it 3 stars. First, the weird line going across the top of the chest is an odd thing to put on a hoodie. It makes it look weird at times, and would be more appropriate for an actual jacket? The hood is also HUGE. It goes over my face like a cultist robe or something. I don't feel like the mesh spots are accessible much with it being so big. Lastly, the tiny mon on the back is almost wasted since it's covered by the hood. It's still a nice, light hoodie, but yeah, I'll hold onto my old one until it turns to dust.
Fair enough and I agree on some points too, we'll make the next version better. Thanks for the review and notes. -Chris
I have one of the old old versions of the hemp hoddies. It is my favorite hoody out of a large collection. It is like being hugged by a hemp cloud.
I was surprised at how much I liked the hoodie. It keeps me cool enough when it gets a little warm in the fall and warm enough when the temperature drops. This works gear living in Chicago. It’s a little big but I like that. The hemp blend feels different from a normal hoodie… the fabric breaths more but feels more rugged.
Have had it for over two years now, and by far it is my favorite hoody. My only precaution is to be careful with size, I am 6'1 at ~160 lbs and the large is very big on me. Just do your measurements first, which I did not do, and you'll have one of the best hoody's out there. Thank you, Datsusara :)
Man, I think I may have found a new staple in my wardrobe. As soon as I opened the shipping bag, I was blown away by how the hoodie felt. It has some weight to it, but it's not super thick like some fleece/cotton ones are. This is the perfect summer/fall hoodie, being very breathable and light but still keeping you warm. I absolutely love how it feels on me. The size chart is dead-on; this thing fits me perfectly. Really, I'm happy with just about everything here in terms of the design and feel. The big hood with the 'vents' to give you peripheral vision is great, and both the inside and outside pockets are HUGE! You can fit a modern phone -easily- and still have room for other stuff!
There are only two things I'm not a fan of. One being something that I'll probably get used to over time because it's a new look. The neckline is a bit low if you wear this zipped up. It's no big deal, but I'm just not used to wearing something like this. It almost feels like a v-neck thing is going on. This doesn't knock the score down at all. But the only true issue I have is my hoodie came with a lot of tiny strands sticking out of one sleeve, almost like when a shirt 'pills' after being worn many times. I pulled on one, thinking I could just take it off, but it ended up getting longer, so I cut it. Had I just yanked on it, there'd probably be a hole. There are a couple on the sleeve, mostly on the underside. Maybe I just got a special one?
That aside, I LOVE this hoodie! Keep it up!
I consider a hoody to be an essential item - one I'd pack in the armageddon bag, or wear while carrying it in this case. Although one can be doubtful about buying something that can't be felt or tried on beforehand, how could I not try this? Great fabric, great company, simple classic design... I took a chance and haven't been let down. The cut seems slim without being restrictive; depending on the company and the item, I'm somewhere between S and M sizes. Based on the measurement chart and photos, I chose the S in this case and it's simply perfect. The hidden pockets will come in handy while travelling around and while I'm not so fussed about the mesh viewing panels on the hood they may just save my arse on the day someone tries to sneak up on me, so we'll see how it goes!
Epic hoody! The mesh in the hood give you your peripheral vision back (great when crossing the road), slightly ripped it on a fence but that's just an escuse to buy another huzzah! :D
